Τον Οκτώβριο του 2003 ο ελαιώνας στον οικισμό Σκορδαλού του Δήμου Μουσούρων στα Χανιά καταστράφηκε από μεγάλη πυρκαγιά μαζί με χιλιάδες στρέμματα δάσους στη ρίζα των Λευκών Ορέων. Η πυρκαγιά κατέκαψε πάνω από 60. 000 ελαιόδενδρα στην περιοχή- χιλιάδες ήταν φυτεμένα από την Ενετοκρατία. Το ελαιοτριβείο της περιοχής έκλεισε. Οι κάτοικοι της περιοχής υπέστησαν τεράστια οικονομική ζημιά, αφού ο ελαιώνας ήταν η κύρια πηγή του εισοδήματός τους.
